SENDAK & CO.: Children's Book Illustrations Since Where The Wild Things Are EXHIBITION

I am delighted to have my work included in a wonderful exhibition called, "SENDAK & CO.: Children's Book Illustrations Since Where The Wild Things Are" at the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala, Florida. The exhibition was originally planned as a celebration of Maurice Sendak and the 50th anniversary of "Where The Wild Things Are", but became a tribute after Sendak's passing in May. The show will run through January 20, 2013 and is open 10am to 5pm (Tuesday- Saturday) and noon to 5pm (Sunday). The Appleton Museum of Art is located at 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL. The exhibition sounds GREAT (and very kid-friendly), so I encourage any of my friends that will be in the Ocala area during this time to check it out!

  1. You probably know that another Sendak show is opening in September at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Do you have work in their collection (specializing in illustrators) or shown in their members' exhibit (coming up soon)? My students love your detailed pictures and I use item to demonstrate scale, perspective, various points of view, closeups, foreshortening, etc. They love practicing "visual literary" by interpreting your pages and translating them into their own words. I'm wondering if you visit schools other than in Southington-- I teach in Cheshire and Hartford .Do you belong to the National Association of Art Educators (University level)? Have you considered presenting at the CT Art Ed. conference in October? Looking forward to your new book in November.

    1. Thanks for your comment, Ms. Anne. I am very happy to hear that my books are helpful to your students! I will actually be appearing on November 11 at the NBMAA as part of their Sendak exhibition, but I don't have anything in their permanent collection. I have done more than 50 presentations at schools all over Connecticut (and in other states as well). I usually do presentations when I am in between books. I have difficulty scheduling them when I am balancing a deadline, teaching, and trying to be a good dad.
